Bus driver from hell

What a bitch that old buss driver is. So were trying to go to Camberage and the buss is full. so i have to wait at the school for the driver to come back ad do a double run. Well since I was not form EVANSVILLE he basically said screw you with his actions of not doing another run for me. So I waited for that bus to come back because the train was at 2:00. So he gets back at 1:50 and I asked him if their was another ride into town and he said "no more rides today until 3:30, but even if the bus is full ill make sure you get a ride into town." So I shook my head and turned around and am going to complain to the college president. This is not the first time he has done weird things either. When Sara and west were in the bus he went to the post office and them dropped some guy off at his house. another time when other student were in the bus he dropped off some old couple at their house. I mean, are you serious! its your job to take student from the college to the bus stop and back not make personal trips to the post office and your friends house. Stupid asshole.

Bike ride

10 miles of open country and houses. Absolutely beautiful. Meghan, Dani, Emily, and I took some bikes out up to Beaver castle. After biking for 3 mils and up two hills we were exhausted. we actually didn't make it to Beaver castle we got close and we saw a another big hill. We then decided to turn around. So we went up another big hill and town the other hill. Doing down we must have gone at least 20 miles an hour. It was a fun ride and the bike ripped a huge hole in my new jeans. they got caught in the chain and i almost fell off the bike.

I believe some of the statements made in this article are quite hilarious. The idea that tourism photograph is a way for tourists to control their environment is absurd. The man statement in the article I do not agree with is “Touristic photography reduces people to mere objects to be possessed.” This statement goes beyond all natural thinking and dives too deep into a very shallow pond. Almost every photo a tourist takes is to remember the trip they had, the places they visited, share memories with their children. I believe very few people think tourists are trying to possess them out their land.

Other statements in the article I do not agree with are when Sontag says, “Tourists use their cameras as a means of taking control of spaces, and possessing the places they visit…” I personally take pictures on vacations to remember the moments and the places I visited. I would also like to share the images I took with family members, friends, and one-day my children. I have no intent on possessing the places I visit or people I saw, I just want to remember what I did on my trip. In addition, I like shooting people when they do not know the camera is on them. I love seeing the reactions and expressions they make when they do not know their being filmed or photographed. As Sontag says though, “To photograph people is to violate them, by seeing them as they never see themselves…” I feel that it is perfectly fine to photograph some one when their not looking. There is no invasion of privacy if their out in public so I really do not see any problem. Just because I have a view of you that you cannot see does not mean anything. If you really want to see your self at a different angle then go get a mirror.

I am all over the place when I shoot photos. I can be shooting a landscape one second, a portrait the next and then some candid just because their interesting. I do not believe I have a focus point when it comes to photography; I just shoot what looks interesting. I do love shooting macros of everything. Now that I have a lens that will do macro’s I love photographing the simplest things and making them larger than life.

While I am doing “tourist” photography, the photos tend to be very similar to photos I shoot at home. I just shoot to shoot. Sometimes I pose people, other times I stand ready to capture anything that I see visual appealing, and sometimes I just wait for the moments to come to me. All of the things I do at home and while on vacation are remarkably similar. I do enjoy shooting while on vacation more than at home. This is because I am able to bring back photos of places and things my family has never seen.

I put my photos on Facebook to show people what I have done recently. I also post photos on Facebook to show people what I am able to do as a photographer. I like to let people see what I have been up to and it makes my family proud. They all get on Facebook just to see my photos. They are always very proud every time I bring a photo or a published photo for them to view.

Article 2

When newspapers and magazines manipulate photographs, they tell an altered story. In the Beijing photograph, the crowd surrounding the lone man facing the tanks, clearly represents a rally or protest of some sort. This manipulation of the photograph could cause some people to think about a completely different situation than the original photo represented. As mentioned in the article altered photos could rewrite history. If photo editors are not careful, one day they may go too far and cause countries to go to war, cause governments to change their minds, and manipulate the news to serve them.

Photos should not be manipulated for content but for print quality. This refers to editing the brightness and contrast and white balance to correct an image taken in poor lighting conditions. These tools should only be used to make a photo look like real life and to print better on paper. For example if and image was taken in low light and came out dark the editor should be able to brighten the image. If a photograph was taken and it is correctly lit buy the image seems to have a yellow tint due to white balance error, you may certainly edit the photo to maintain a correct color balance. It would not be ok to enhance the colors of images to make parts of an image stand out when the do not in real life.

Pieces of images should not be used to make one photograph for news. The image of Martha Stewart uses Stewarts head was placed on a models body and clearly misleads every reader. At first glance, Stewart looks like she is thin and attractive after coming out of prison. This is an example of what not to do with images. Readers will be outraged if they find out your images were manipulated.

Article one may 19th

I believe that graphic images should be printed because of the story they can tell. Many graphic images have been published in papers and they have made an impact on the world around us. In the Everyday Ethics article the author says, “Journalists have a duty to tell stories with words and visual images that connect communities…” I think if more journalists used disturbing but powerful images, more people would care about topics such as child hunger. The media also needs to be carefully about how they use images. If you were to use an image of flag draped coffins it must be used ethical and with the approval of the soldiers family.

I think people can face reality in our society, but I think they are reluctant too do so. Seeing a wounded American solder being transported by his comrades can outrage many Americans. Buy why are they outraged? People should know what war really looks like and be able to decide if they want their country to go to war. Outrage is also compression. If people have some though about an image they can obviously understand what the image is conveying.

I believe news organizations should limit censorship of images to include pornographic material and the faces of dead people. No one wants to see a naked person on the front page. Well some people may, but it is immoral to show a close up of a victim, a soldier, or a childs face. If you had died, would you really want your face all over the news? In the tsunami victims photograph, I think showing the dead children’s faces is too much. If the faces were slightly blurred or if a wider angle had been used the photo would be more appropriate for print. The only issues with a wider angle in this photograph, is that you would lose some of the mothers emotion. I believe that you would not need a large amount of emotion. If you were to try to convince someone to help you for your cause, you would want to use more a more emotional image.

Coffee Fix : Assignment 4

Scotland

Long buss ride but totally worth it. It was 6 hours with and hour and a halve break to visit a cathedral. It was cool, you weren't supposed take pictures but i did anyway. When we finally got to the hotel, and i stress finally, we checked in and discovered we were in the heart of the city. I mean the mall was across the street, the royal mile was one street over and pubs, pars and clubs were all over the place. my favorite store was the pound store. Everything in the store was a pound. 2 liters of coke, one pound. Later that night we at at an Italian restaurant. it was so good then we went to a couple of bars and went back to the hotel and later we took a ghost tour. The tour was so much fun. our tour guide was hilarious and after the tour which was only 67 pounds we got a free pint at the "Bank." The next day we went to the castle on the hill top. It was a pretty legit castle. It had canons, it was high, and it had the crown jewels of Scotland in it. Sorry couldn't get a photo of it. We then explored high street, also known as the royal mile. It was the main street in Edinburgh. Search it on Google maps to get a sense of where I was. also search for Grantham. Thats where we started the 6 hour bus ride. I was a fun trip though lots of sleeping and lots of exploring.

Sunset Search

Paul and I went searching last night for some good sunset shots. We started to take photos from the front of the castle and then moved into the gardens. after a few photos we moved up a hill to catch the sun sight as it slowly fell over the horizon. Slowly, we moved up hill after hill searching for the perfect shot. finally we searched for a shot of the sunset over the castle. We got lucky and fount a small clearing where you could jest see the sun for a few minuets. I snapped as many photos as i could and had some very interesting shots.

Take off

Boring day

Sunday was a day I used to catch up on sleep and take a few photos. I did go into town with Lacey, Stacy and Ashley for a few hours and bought a candy bar and withdrew 50£ it like 74$. I still plan on exploring the castle today and working on class papers and story assignments.

The winters tale

What a good show. Well i thought what I saw was good at least. I fell a sleep at least 5 or 6 times. once on Meghan's solder, and she had the nerve to wake me up. Just kidding. Well some of the play was cool and the some of it was boring. The first and fourth quarter were boring and what I slept thought. The second and third were interesting parts. Their was a giant news paper bear, an Indian dance with large frontal parts, and some cool lighting. I may see another play that i want to see not one we are planed to see.

The walk back from Granthem

Long walk. Long long long walk. So i went from the granthem town center to the castle by use of sidewalks. (it's not a city because it dose not have a cathederal) £ I realy wanted to do some photography of the hillsides and streets. So i walked down Harlaxton road for about 4 miles is the total distance. I got some sweet shots on the way back of the signs and streets. £ i was a very windy day as well. i had to stand at an angle to avoud being blown bachwards. It also started to rain. Beth bradford got oaked because she left just befor the rain started. I ducked into the morrisons grocerie shop and looked for some cajun Squirl crisps (chips). Then I left uncesfull in my search.

Climbing the Tower's

So far I have climbed two spires at cathedrals in York and Coventry. They were both quite high and quite narrow. The view from both towers was amazing, and not so special at the same time. I was basically a very high point where you could see for a while. The wind at the top of both towers was unbearable at points. The climb down was the hardest part. your legs are already tired from the climb up and then you think going down is easier. NOT! its so narrow and steep it hurts your legs more and you have to go slower so you don't fall over.

Day on the train

Well this was my first train ride and it was exciting it was just interesting. it was pretty fast and we got to our destination allot quicker than we would have by car or buss. We departed from Granthem station and headed to York. we were there for most of the day and then we went back to Granthem. but Dakota and I decided to go to London for an hour and a halve and find platform 9 3/4th's. we found it and then headed home on the last train of the night.

Strarford-Upon-Avon

Today we left the manor by bus and traveled first to an old bombed monastery. it was a huge church and i climbed the spire. Their was an amazing view at the top. Then we traveled to Stratford. When we arrived we first went to Shakespeare's resting place and then we went to his house. We walked all around the city and had our first fish and chips. It was a good flaky batter and they wanted to charge us 5 pents (8cents) for ketchup. So i didn't buy any because that was dumb. Later I was outside a "proclaimed" most haunted horror museum in Stratford. Well anyway i had to rip on in. I was outside and was talking to Rachel and said"how it this haunted its like 15 feet wide and probably dose not go that far back." so this guy that worked in the shop was sanding in the doorway and said "its haunted because it over 600 years old" and i was like o OK in the most sarcastic manner i could. then the guy walked away. That was the highlight of the day. we also went inside a McDonald's it was actual pretty cool. they had mostly the same items but they had muffins and doughnuts. then we say a play and went home.
